Founding Story (1982)
On 15 August 1982, Very Reverend Father Abraham Anselm Isidahome Ojefua founded the monastery on 49.68 Hectares (122.77 Acres) of land. What began as a foundation of faith has blossomed into a vibrant community of prayer.
Guided by the Rule of Saint Benedict, the foundation of OUR LADY OF THE HOLY CROSS CISTERCIAN MONASTERY, ILLAH was laid on the principles of 'Ora et Labora'—prayer and work. Each stone of the original chapel was laid with intention, creating a space where the divine meets the temporal.
"The monastery is a school of the Lord's service, where through prayer and work we seek God above all things."
— Very Reverend Father Abraham Anselm Isidahome Ojefua, Founder

Four Decades of Faith, Prayer & Service
Founded on 15 August 1982 by Very Reverend Father Abraham Anselm Isidahome Ojefua. The monastery began its mission as a contemplative Cistercian community dedicated to prayer, work, and service.
Today, Our Lady of the Holy Cross Cistercian Monastery continues its mission as a Cistercian Priory, serving the Church and society through prayer, hospitality, agriculture, craftsmanship, retreats, and spiritual formation.
